Short bio

I am a biologist by training, earning my PhD from the Department of Mechanical and Process Engineering at ETH Zurich in 2003. My doctoral work involved pioneering the development of a software platform for analyzing Fluorescence Speckle Microscopy, which was applied to the study of cell motility.

Following my PhD, I moved to The Scripps Research Institute in San Diego, California, for a postdoctoral position where I further advanced this software platform.

In April 2005, I joined Susan Gasser’s group at the Friedrich Miescher Institute (part of the Novartis Research Foundation) and transitioned to the Facility for Advanced Imaging and Microscopy (FAIM) in January 2006. At FAIM, I specialized as an image processing and analysis specialist, as well as a scientific software developer and consultant. I developed dedicated software for microscopy data analysis and assisted scientists with their imaging projects.

In May 2012, I became a Software and Data Management Engineer at the Department of Biosystems Science and Engineering at ETH Zurich in Basel, contributing to the newly established Single Cell Facility.

Since July 2024, I have been running a Scientific Image Analysis and Software Engineering Consultancy alongside my appointment at D-BSSE. I am actively involved in several open-source projects, aiming to advance biosystems research and foster an open, bias-free scientific community.
